Focus on scientific research and gather talents! Dr. Zheng Ran’s thesis defense meeting at the Beike Biological Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base was successfully held

On November 2, 2023, the thesis defense meeting of postdoctoral fellow Zheng Ran, jointly trained by the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology Postdoctoral Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base of Shenzhen Beike Biotechnology Co., Ltd., was successfully held.

The members of the defense committee are composed of Researcher Zhang Jian, the mobile station instructor of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cai Cheguo, the practice base instructor of Shenzhen Beike Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Professor Jiang Wei of the Wuhan University Medical Research Institute, Associate Researcher Qin Xuan, and Associate Researcher Xie Nan of Shenzhen Hospital, Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Professor Jiang Wei serves as the leader of the review expert group.

Dr. Zheng Ran’s postdoctoral research topic is “Early Pluripotency and Directed Differentiation of Pancreatic Islet Cells”. At the defense meeting, Dr. Zheng Ran gave a detailed report to the experts on the background of the project selection, current status, research ideas, research methods and expected results. It is planned to carry out research on the directional differentiation of a new type of pluripotent stem cells into pancreatic islet beta cells. The main purpose is to establish induced pluripotent stem cells without differentiation tendency, and during this process, the pluripotency status of the cells will be continuously investigated, and the differentiation efficiency and function under different pluripotency states will be compared. Combined with the optimization of the differentiation protocol, a new method of obtaining pancreatic islet beta cells will be established, with a view to providing a new solution for diabetes.

Dr. Zheng Ran’s proposal report has clear ideas and solid content, and has been unanimously recognized and supported by the members of the review expert panel. At the same time, the participating experts conducted in-depth discussions on Dr. Zheng Ran’s research content and put forward many valuable suggestions on its innovation, feasibility and expected results.Finally, after review and discussion by the review expert group, the project foundation and research significance in the proposal report were unanimously recognized, and the project was approved.




After passing the thesis defense, Professor Jiang Wei, the leader of the review expert group, expressed his expectations for Dr. Zheng Ran after entering the station. He hopes that Dr. Zheng Ran will use postdoctoral research, rely on the superior resources of the postdoctoral workstation and postdoctoral innovation practice base, and combine it with Beike Biotech’s years of deep experience in the field of cells to rationally design scenarios and paths for the industrial application of this topic, better transform basic research into clinical applications, and provide new paths and solutions for the treatment of refractory diseases such as diabetes.

Dr. Zheng Ran

Obtained a doctorate from Wuhan University. His main research direction during his doctoral period was stem cell biology. During his doctoral period, he won many awards such as national scholarships and outstanding graduate students. His research results were published in international journals such as stem cell reports.
