Recently, the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government issued the “Shenzhen Biological Industry Revitalization and Development Plan (2009-2015)” (hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”). The “Plan” focuses on the core goal of building a national bio-industry base, strengthens the four key development areas of bio-medicine, bio-medicine, bio-agriculture and bio-environmental protection, and implements four major projects: improvement of innovation capabilities, international industrial cooperation, key industrial breakthroughs and promotion of industrial agglomeration. Among them, stem cell products are listed as one of the key development targets in the biomedical field.
In terms of implementing key industry breakthrough projects, tissue engineering and stem cells are included8 A major breakthrough project, the “Plan” clearly proposes to promote the construction of Beike Biological stem cell and regenerative medicine industrialization projects, establish and improve standards and specifications for adult stem cells from multiple sources from laboratory to clinical application, build a comprehensive stem cell bank, and actively introduce tissue engineering industrialization projects as key tasks for tissue engineering and stem cells; in terms of implementing innovation capability improvement projects, Tsinghua–Beike Biological Stem Cell Joint Laboratory will be promoted as a key laboratory. The laboratory was established in 200710 was established in cooperation between Beike Biotech and Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School. By carrying out basic and applied research on stem cells, research and development of stem cells and related genetic engineering products and monoclonal antibodies, cultivate teaching and technical talents for stem cell research, realize the transformation of scientific research results of stem cell-related technologies and the leap-forward development of Shenzhen in the field of stem cell regenerative medicine.
The “Plan” proposes that the bio-industry will become another new leading industry in the world economy after the information industry, and Shenzhen will build an important bio-industry base in my country and even the world. The stage goal of 2015 is that the annual sales revenue of the biological industry will reach 2000 billion, becoming a high-tech pillar industry in Shenzhen and cultivating 3 about 3 leading companies with annual sales revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan, 50 companies with annual sales revenue exceeding 1 billion yuan, 200 about 100 million yuan companies.
Beike Biotech will take this opportunity to unswervingly implement the “Plan”, innovate independently, make key breakthroughs, give full play to its own technology and industrialization advantages, and promote the industrialization process of stem cells in Shenzhen and even the country.
